About

Our Work

Glimpse of Ghana

Ghana is known as the gateway to West Africa. The population is about 25 million, of which 42% are children. The country is rich in oil, gold, cocoa, and other natural commodities. It is politically stable, has a middle-income country status, and yet one-fifth of the population still lives in extreme poverty. Orphans in Ghana are normally cared for by their primary and or extended family. However, due to the tremendous economic strain, a larger percentage of orphans are being raised outside the family social safety net. According to the Ghana Demographic and Health Survey 16% of children under the age of 15 are not living with either parent. See full report here

HDI fights hunger relief with our Humanitarian Day projects, youth leadership development, design sustainable projects, and manage corporate sociability projects to offer communities in need long term solutions and growth.

EDUCATION
Education should be relevant and affordable. O ne obstacle faced by many Ghanaian students is that they are not completing school. The recent K-12 school completion  rates in Ghana are:

•    71% for Elementary
•    83% for Junior High
•    50% for High School

Our commitment is to equip our orphans with the necessary tools to complete their education.

WELLNESS
The Ghanaian government funded hospitals and healthcare centers provide vital medical assistance, to reduce the risk of infectious diseases present throughout the country.

HDI collaborates with these agencies to host free health care clinics. The aim is to raise awareness by educating families on how to prevent infections and diseases.

EMPLOYABILITY
Ghana’s unemployment rate is about 7%. The core of the problem is the lack of employability skills such as critical thinking, problem solving,
and information technology. The HDI sponsorship program is designed to provide junior and high school orphans with these types of foundational skills.

Sustainable Projects

Farm Management

HDI is managing a 12 acre farm owned by Trade2Aid Limited Ghana. HDI team of local farmers are responsible for all aspects of the project with the support  the Ministry of Agriculture. Below is a list of crops being grown.

Plantain

In Ghana, plantain is ranked third after yam and cassava in the food crop. It serves as food for over 60% of the population.

Cassava

Cassava is the main source of daily and a regular source of income for most rural dwellers It can also be turned into high-quality cassava flour, food-grade starch, and food-grade ethanol.  Ghana is Africa’s fourth largest cassava producer, first is Nigeria.

Cocoa

Ghana and Ivory Coast are the biggest cocoa exporters that consist of almost 70% of the world’s beans. HDI is growing cocoa and coconut with aim of processing the raw products into chocolate, butters, creams, and drinks.

Housing Development  Project

HDI is manages sustainable agricultural corporate responsibility projects for various agribusiness corporations in Ghana, Africa, that range from small to medium size.

We work with architects, professional business development consultants to design ecosystem that combines job creation, crop production, sales, business management in dignified safe work spaces. Project range from 1 acre agricultural compound developments to 12 acre commercial farm management projects.

The site featured in the video is a project signed with local Ghana business partner. It is located in a very nice suburb area about an hour drive from Accra, Ghana and 20 minute drive from its second largest outdoor shopping area in Accra.

The plan is for it to serve as a sustainable agriculture chicken farm and training center. Support this amazing project by donating toward our building a sustainable future for Muslim farming families

Water Saves Lives

We received a message from the only Muslim school in Suhum, Ghana Eastern Region. The video provided showed the teachers and students having to borrow water for ablution in preparation for prayer. After studying this case HDI confirmed a partner to build the school its first deep borehole well. During the opening ceremony everyone made prayers expressing there gratitude. From no water the school became the source for water for the whole community.  We build deep borehole water wells in the most needed areas for faith centers, schools, and health clinics.
